This server caches large files so not only can you retrieve them faster, you are less susceptible to large numbers of other people hitting Apple's servers directly. edgesuite.net, akamaitechnologies.net, and akamai.net addresses are some of the safest on the Internet, and you'll notice them if you look carefully when you hit other major websites.
